Journal #4: Analysis of an Article

Today I analyzed a speech made by one of the most influential people in history, Carlie Chaplin. It is perhaps one of the most well know speeches made in the world from the entertainment industry. At this very moment, World War 2 is ravaging Europe, with the Nazis and the Soviet Union clashing. These two nations were perhaps the most dangerous to world peace with both being under the rule of vicious dictators. These two people have slaughtered millions of people. Chaplin is speaking to millions of TV watchers around the world with this film. Not only that, he is also speaking to the enemies who are being forced into war. The language he spoke was simple but very passionate. It appealed to the reader or listeners’ heart, no the head. “The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men – cries out for universal brotherhood – for the unity of us all” This language makes people think about the good in everything, instead of the bad.
